The Labour Government is looking to repeat the successes of the past to tackle the current housing crisis in the UK. They are focusing on New Towns and delivering 10,000 plus homes in each area. Crucially, we recently got confirmation from the taskforce of the 12 locations they are recommending. Then, if you need help from creative architects in London, we're ready to work with you.
North England
Interestingly, three areas in the North have been chosen. The first is urban development in Leeds, delivering new homes in the South Bank that will be well connected to the centre of the city.
The second northern location is inner city development in Manchester, specifically at Victoria North. The goal here is to create more housing for people who work in the massive array of industries in the city.
Finally, we have the first proposal for a new town. The idea is to develop the village of Adlington, creating new housing and infrastructure. It's a good strategic location, close to Greater Manchester and Cheshire.
London
Impressively, two locations in the capital have been chosen. Firstly is Enfield in North London. The idea is to expand development to connect Chase Park and Crews Hill. It will deliver more housing in a green, well-connected part of the city.
The second location is Thamesmead in Greenwich. The riverside is a great potential setting for new housing and could develop previously inaccessible land. The caveat here though is an extension of the DLR is necessary too. Luckily, there is plenty of support to make this happen.
Devon
There are also two locations in Devon. First up is a plan to increase density in Plymouth. Expanding the developments here would create more housing close to HMNB Devonport, one of the most important Royal Navy bases in the UK.
The second plan is for another brand new settlement at Marlcombe. The location is interesting because it is close to Exeter and the East Devon Enterprise Zone.
Other areas
The other chosen locations are across the Midlands and South England. One plan is to renew Milton Keynes, expanding the amount of housing and delivering a new transport system. This is an interesting proposal because MK is one of the most successful examples of a New Town.
There will be additional development in South Gloucester and Wychavon. Another new settlement is proposed for Tempsford in Bedfordshire. Finally, there is a proposal to redevelop the Heyford Park airfield, a former RAF site in Oxfordshire.
