RIBA's London Regional award winners
At the beginning of March 2016, the shortlist for the RIBA London Regional awards for architectural excellence was released. It included 68 buildings from throughout the capital, including homes, commercial properties and public buildings from the leisure and education sectors. The projects were chosen from an amazing 181 entries, and we were proud to have two of our projects chosen for inclusion on the shortlist.Time has flown since the list of buildings in the running for awards was released, and the wait is finally over. The 36 winners of the prestigious RIBA London Regional Award were announced at the beginning of May at a ceremony at the University of Greenwich's Stockwell Street Building. The setting was appropriate, as the building is home to the architectural department and has previously been shortlisted for the Stirling Prize. The selection of the winners was done by juries of experts. They visited each property personally and looked in detail at each building to decide which deserved recognition. To our delight, both the Modern Side Extension and Modern Mews projects earned an award. The Modern Side Extension was praised for the way it transformed the property. The judges loved the research that had gone into the project and how we had redefined what can be achieved with residential extensions. The contemporary details also received praise. The Modern Mews earned positive reviews too, particularly for the way we made the best use of the space that was available and how we managed to achieve a bright, airy interior. The materials we chose for the design were noted, including the oak timbers and the extensive use of glass. We are happy to have achieved these accolades for projects we put so much effort into, particularly as these are two of our favourite examples of residential architecture in our beloved city London. It also means we can look forward to the coveted National Awards with new pride. Every project that wins a Regional Award is in the running to earn a National one later in the year, so we will be keeping our fingers crossed.
