Commercial and residential properties inform each other

In broad terms, the most significant difference between commercial and residential architecture is the shift in focus of the use of space. In a home, the main focus is on comfort and aesthetics, from a business perspective the use of space is critical in achieving maximum performance and efficiency. However, this focus is of course not exclusive in either case, and all of these qualities are important in the creation of both commercial and residential architecture in London and throughout the world. We all know the saying that time is money, but it is true to say that space is money too, particularly in the present day when we face rising land and property costs. An investment in space for a business must be justified as being absolutely vital to operations and processes, and there will always be an expectation for a measured financial return. While this means that businesses must make the most efficient use of commercial space, staff and employee comfort also plays a vital role in achieving efficiency. When we are working on a commercial project, we strive to achieve optimal balance between taking a business-focused perspective and making that space comfortable to use. The layout of any commercial or business space should not disregard the human traits and characteristics of the people who will work in it. Placing too much emphasis on operational efficiency can actually end up undermining it by not giving sufficient consideration to the comfort of the people who occupy the property. It would be fair to say that the reverse is true of our residential architecture. A home should, first and foremost, be a place of comfort, but it is also crucial to ensure that all practical considerations for a domestic environment are covered.Commercial and residential architecture are two very distinct and different forms, but neither of them exists in isolation. Each of the two different sectors informs the other in a highly beneficial way. Through our understanding of this, we have been able to deliver consistently successful results.
