This is our house. It reflects us, our personalities, and I think that’s what Phil nailed. It is very vibrant, but then the light gives it that vibrancy as well, so it feels as though you got to follow on from that. It’s sunshine!!! I think Phil is a genius with the light in here. The way the light runs through this house is incredible.
The first night I was here, I sat outside beyond midnight just looking at the sky, and I came in, sat here looking through these magnificent windows, staring at the twinkling lights of Lime Regis and so on. It’s just fantastic, that sort of inside‑outside living. You could’ve been outside in the garden.

It’s warm, soft, and sunny. The panelling contributes so much to the building’s feel—even though it’s only on two walls, it really sets its mark—and that creates an interesting contrast with the outside. The house has this beautiful, sleek wrap-around exterior with consistent color and texture all the way around. No gutters, no downspouts. It’s like a smooth envelope that wraps the warmth of the interior into a wonderful parcel, and whichever way you look, you see green and blue.

We'd not used an architect before, and it was a revelation. Phil Coffey and his team are a hugely talented bunch, and spending time with them was a privilege from start to finish. The design was breathtaking and, in the end, our home won a RIBA award and featured in several TV shows. More importantly, for us, was the peace of mind of knowing everything was overseen by top professionals. Five years on, and especially throughout 'lockdown', we enjoy living in our little piece of art every day. It's wellbeing on another level!

We first met Phil after when we visited his house on the Open House London event years ago. We contacted him, as we were to embark on a project in York. He came up to see us, and I remember how he was astounded by the fact he could be in York in less than 2 hours, as it could take him longer to travel from London to a 20 mile radius from to client in the south east! He interpreted exactly what we were looking to do, and his team worked very well with us, and the contractor. The standard of his professional approach to the whole project was excellent, and I would recommend him to any party , whether or not it was a total new build, or a major adjustment to existing building. Phil has the scope, and the knowledge to interpret exactly what the client requires.

Working with Phil and his team on the Hidden House was an absolute joy. The site is very unique and complex both historically and physically - the house sits adjacent to a listed building and above listed vaults. Thanks to Coffey Residentials extensive knowledge in regulations and their relations with the local council, at no point during the project were we concerned that these complexities would turn into complications. Their continued attention and ambition throughout all phases of the project resulted in this beautiful house resembling a very efficient boat where every detail is meticulously thought out. I highly recommend working with Phil and his team if you want to build a home to be proud of filled with awards and have fun during the process!
