Kitchen Garden
Maida Vale
Kitchen Garden, a three bedroom garden apartment merges interior and exterior through ultra-slim glazing, extending the home’s spatial experience into a garden oasis. This multi-layered design ensures an effortless transition between the indoors and outdoors.
Kitchen Garden is an embodiment of tranquil, integrated living spaces. The primary objective of this project was to enhance the interplay between the interior of the house and the garden, aiming to provide the client with a serene oasis amidst their hectic London lifestyle.
The design strategy was to craft a nuanced, multi-layered transition that effortlessly merges the indoor and outdoor environments, extending the spatial experience beyond traditional boundaries. Key to this design is the use of ultra-slim profile glazing, which ensures an uninterrupted and fluid connection between the house and its garden, thereby creating an oasis of tranquillity that facilitates the client's connection with nature right within their home.
Craft / Mirrors
Kitchen Garden is an architectural ensemble that bridges the home and garden. Internally, the strategic placement of the kitchen island, dining table, and cooker hood, in combination with tactfully positioned mirrors, establishes a linear demarcation between the interior and exterior spaces. These carefully crafted thresholds reflect the verdant outdoors into the home, infusing an element of playful visual intrigue. This design choice not only lightens the structure but also mitigates any discomfort associated with feeling confined, creating a sense of openness akin to a natural, free-flowing space rather than a restrictive 'goldfish bowl.'
Light / Daylight and Artificial Light
At Kitchen Garden, the meticulously positioned linear rooflight illuminates the home, aligning perfectly with the kitchen island below. Daylight enhances the space, with the interplay of light and shadow enlivening the interior. As night falls, artificial lighting suspended from custom hangers infuses warmth into the space, fostering a convivial atmosphere for late-night dinner parties. This thoughtful use of natural and artificial light not only regulates the illumination but also manipulates the ambiance of the space, ensuring an inviting and dynamic environment at all times.
