A Hoxton Square penthouse refurbished around a double-height stainless steel kitchen "island" and a switchable smart-glass screen that turns translucent at a touch.
The starting point was a small Hoxton Square penthouse with the layout against it — bedroom and kitchen/living separated by a wall, very little daylight reaching the back rooms. The brief asked us to keep the unit open while still giving the bedroom privacy when it needed it.
The plan is organised around a single double-height stainless steel "island": it holds the kitchen, the stair, a wine rack and a bathroom in one piece. A glazed floor at one end of the island connects the two levels visually and lets light fall through.
The screen between the island and the bedroom is electro-chromatic smart glass — clear by default, translucent at a touch. White lacquered panels around the rest of the walls bounce light back. A new tall window in the bedroom opens the view onto Hoxton Square.

"I felt they really understood what I wanted from my home and was inspired by their creative vision."
