Our residential projects have resulted in some of our most innovative and unique work. A Borrow House refers to a property that undergoes extensive transformative work which enables it to borrow from its surroundings. We are focused on the connection of people and places, and we were pleased to take on the renovation of a three-bedroom end of terrace property with a single storey addition at the rear that had previously been in use as a carpenter's studio.We were able to take full advantage of the low section of the studio by allowing the incredible views and direct stream of sunlight to penetrate the visually thin roof skin. Each internal area was designed to suit the requirements of the inhabitants, along with the periods of time typically spent in each space. By altering the entire layout of the property, we were able to provide the owners with a usable external area along with dining and utility areas and an additional bedroom.Another Borrow House project we worked on involved a similar property, but also included a basement dig. The project resulted in living spaces cascading from an elevated study area and each space was connected by steps. Strategically placed mirrors offer glimpses of the sky into the lower levels, further supporting the submerged dining area. As the rear garden area was small, we reduced the height of the surrounding fence to borrow from the neighbours' trees and greenery and create an intimate area for relaxing summer evenings.If you need architects to work on any type of residential architecture in London, we offer a comprehensive and collaborative service.
