Apartment Block
CLERKENWELL
A two-bedroom renovation in Clerkenwell features over 30,000 hand-cut oak blocks. This home showcases excellent craftsmanship, providing a warm and inviting living space filled with soft light filtered through wooden screens and tall heritage windows.
Apartment Block is an ingenious transformation of a previously dark flat into a luminous two-storey home, accentuated by over 30,000 hand-cut blocks of European Oak. Original Victorian features are highlighted, with a reconfigured layout optimising light and space. A modern kitchen and convertible dining room sit beneath a spacious mezzanine, with light-enhancing sliding pocket doors. The hand-laid timber blocks throughout the apartment and original glazed green bricks add a rich tactile quality, culminating in a harmonious blend of historical resonance and contemporary design.
Light / Translucent Lined Shutters
At Apartment Block, the original three-meter-tall sash timber windows take centre stage in the main living area. Exquisitely crafted shutters, lined with translucent linen, offer privacy while allowing sunlight from the south-facing windows and nighttime city glow to filter in. This dynamic interplay of light and shadow creates a constantly evolving spectacle on the double-height living space walls.
